Penrose Almshouses

Built almost 400 years ago, and absolutely teeming with history, Penrose Almshouses in Barnstaple serve as a window into the town’s past. There can’t be too many places in the town, that have changed as little this over the last 100 years or so? Move the slider left & right to compare the differences –

Rock Park – Park Hotel

One of my own pictures here – I’m the kid on the left, I’m guessing I was about 3.5 years old? I was born in 1974, so it was around-about 1977. We lived at Rock Avenue at the time, spent a lot of time down Rock Park.

Christening at Newport Church

Another one of my own pictures, taken at my christening at St John the Baptist Church Newport, 1974. I’m the one in white. The other person is my dad pretending to be Samuel L. Jackson.

Vicarage Street / Yeo Valley School

A view looking up Vicarage Street, you can see Yeo Valley School in the background. The buildings on the right include The Carpenters Arms, one of Barnstaple’s many long-gone public houses. Move the slider left & right to compare the differences –
